Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos is the leading master of the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) in Canada. Born to Filipino parents in Japan, in 1969 Ramos moved to the USA but later returned to Japan and studied shakuhachi under several teachers where he learned the instrument’s varied repertoire: honkoyku (original Zen music), sankyoku (secular chamber music) and gendai kyoku (new style pieces). The delicate sounds of the shakuachi are truly beautiful.

Al Pichler and The Alpiners perform a one-of-a-kind show of classic Bavarian music and unique brand of Bavarian/modern music. The Alpiners really like to interact and engage with the audience during their shows. Al Pichler & The Alpiners have entertained at hundreds of Oktoberfests, weddings, parties and corporate events. Gary Comeau & The Voodoo Allstars play Cajun/Zydeco upbeat party music. Led by Gary singin’ up a storm and playing the fiddle, mandolin, accordion and guitar, the band performs with irresistible exuberance. Playing without inhibition or boundaries, Gary allows his heart and soul weave through the always memorable performances. Gary Comeau’s tremendous talent, energy and fun-loving personality make this band a great choice for any party.

John is an excellent Latin guitarist in the Nuevo Flamenco style. He has opened for world beat artists Strunz & Farah and has performed world-wide including a tour to Japan. His passionate & fiery music offers a new direction in Flamenco. As a solo artist or with his band John Gilliat creates a wonderful warm atmosphere for any event.

Karen Flamenco is an acclaimed collaborative and interactive flamenco dance company that is a leader in the creation, production and education of flamenco dance in Vancouver. Bold and innovative this company’s distinctive style and approach have helped the company make a unique and valuable contribution to the development of flamenco dance in this city.

Katari Taiko has the distinction of being the first taiko drum group formed in Canada and has developed a large and enthusiastic popular following. Since its inception in 1979, this Asian-Canadian company has performed throughout Canada and the U.S. The group has appeared in numerous festivals in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, St. John, and Seattle. They have also performed in a number of theatre settings including the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

An evening with crooner Lou Marocco is truly entertainment at it’s finest. Lou performs regularly at Federico’s Supper Club and Italian Days on Commercial Drive. Lou possesses a wide range of music in his repertoire: Rat-Pack standards, legendary rock ‘n’ roll, contemporary dance hits/favorites, traditional Italian and Latin Ballroom.

Mariachi Tabasko plays traditional music from Mexico and Latin America. Performing in authentic costumes, the ensemble is able to perform as a trio of guitars, a quartet, or an entire band including strings and brass. They offer a repertoire which is suitable for all kinds of events and they truly bring a festive ambiance to any occasion.

Mazacote is a hard hitting Latin band that plays horn-driven New York Salsa Dura and beats from Colombia, Puerto Rico and Cuba. The band features Nicaraguan singer-songwriter David Lopez, with Grammy Grammy Award-winning percussionist Toto Berriel on congas, Latin Jazz trumpeter Malcolm Aiken, and a groove-heavy rhythm section featuring Chris Couto on timbales, Aaron McKinney on bass, and pianist Niho Takase.

These talented dancers capture the excitement, colour, and exotic rhythms of the South Pacific. This world class dance troupe features six beautiful women dressed in authentic costumes fashioned from shells, feathers, pearls, grass and tapacloth. Their show always includes lots of audience participation.

The Phase III Steel Drum Band will take you away to the Caribbean … if only for a short visit. Singer and performing artist, Shiamak Davar is known as the Guru of Contemporary dance in India. Shiamak’s Vancouver dance team has performed at various prestigious events like the Opening Ceremony of the World Police and Fire Games at GM Place and The Celebration ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics. They also performed with Bollywood’s hottest stars at the International Indian Film Academy awards in Toronto and The Times of India awards held in Vancouver.

Shot of Scotch strives to create new, exciting, contemporary dance pieces while maintaining a high standard of technique and remaining true to the deep Scottish roots of the centuries old art form of Highland dance. Shot of Scotch performances include BC Highland Games, CelticFest, The BC Government Multicultural Awards, The Rogue Folk Club, festivals, Robbie Burns events, along with numerous Ceilidhs and private celebrations.
