During Mark’s early years of classical education he played at provincial music competitions and was awarded several trophies for being at the top of his class in Bach preludes and Beethoven sonatas. Then there followed live performances in clubs across North America, numerous studio sessions and recordings, choral workshops and performances, cruise ship contracts and the top 40 band circuit in Asia & the Middle East.
Moving to Montreal and studied jazz with piano genius Jean Beaudet and the iconic Wray Downes. Graduating with honors from Concordia University, Mark continued to gig around Montreal in a variety of roles and settings – from groove-based dance ensembles to live karaoke projects to colorful 70s and 80s cover groups. As well offered private music lessons and scored short films and documentaries.
Since settling in Vancouver, Mark Hoepner’s focus has lately been on jazz piano/voice entertainment as well as live funk & electronic keyboards and programming. Mark has been playing to appreciative audiences at high end venues such as the Gotham Steakhouse, Shoreclub Restaurant, Pan Pacific Hotel, Fairmont Waterfront and Hotel Vancouver to name but a few. Mark’s passion remains to engage and entertain audiences while continuing his journey of exploring a diverse range of genres.
