Pars National Ballet stands as a beacon of cultural preservation and artistic excellence, rooted in both classical ballet and the rich traditions of Iranian dance. Founded in 1966 by acclaimed dancer and choreographer Abdollah Nazemi in Tehran, Iran, the company emerged as a pioneering force in the nation’s performing arts scene. With formal training from the Iranian National Academy of Ballet and mentorship from distinguished figures such as William Dollar and Ivon Patterson of the American Ballet Theatre, as well as Anna Cox and Sandra Zolan of London’s Royal Ballet, Mr. Nazemi brought a global perspective to his work.
After the 1979 revolution, when dance was prohibited in Iran, Mr. Nazemi relocated to Los Angeles, where he revived Pars National Ballet and expanded its reach through international tours across Asia, Europe, and North America. His dedication not only kept Iranian dance alive in exile but also introduced global audiences to the country’s vibrant cultural expressions.
Today, Pars National Ballet continues its mission under the guidance of Nazemi’s students, including the founder of a Canadian chapter of the company. Through their efforts, the legacy of Abdollah Nazemi endures—honoring the past while inspiring future generations to celebrate and share Iran’s artistic heritage with the world.
