The Yaletown String Quartet is a Vancouver-based ensemble celebrated for its bold fusion of classical string performance with contemporary genres, including jazz, blues, rock, and world music. More than just a traditional chamber group, they are known for their innovative reinterpretations of a wide range of music—from the timeless works of Gershwin and Piazzolla to the iconic sounds of Queen and Björk. Their mission is clear: to entertain and innovate, bridging the gap between classical tradition and modern musical expression.
The quartet features an impressive roster of musicians. Violinist Mark Ferris, a Yale graduate and founding member, is the concertmaster of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and has toured extensively with theater productions and recorded for film and video games. Violinist Cameron Wilson, known for his work with Van Django and the Hard Rubber Orchestra, is also a prolific composer and arranger. Violists Marcus Takizawa and Henry Lee are both Juilliard-trained, bringing a wealth of international performance experience. Cellist Finn Manniche rounds out the group, adding his eclectic style that spans from Bach to surf rock.
Together, the Yaletown String Quartet pushes the boundaries of what a string ensemble can be, delivering dynamic, engaging performances that resonate with contemporary audiences.
