The hoop dance was, in the original form, part of a healing ceremony to restore harmony and balance in the world. It is also believed that a dancer adds a year to his life for each hoop he passes through while he is dancing.
Hoop Dance is a form of storytelling that incorporates up to thirty hoops to create static and dynamic shapes or formations representing various animals, shapes and native icons like the Eagle and Butterfly.
The hoop dance and other colourful, vibrant Fancy Dances performed by White Thunder Dance Theatre are a wonderful First Nations tradition perfect for any event!
