Bhangra is a dynamic, colourful dance form created hundreds of years ago in celebration of the harvest in Punjab. Vancouver’s Bhangra is a mash-up of South Asian music and dance traditions, pop culture influences and global Bhangra beats.
The story of the Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration Society (VIBC) started when 3 friends got together at a local coffee shop and began talking about putting together a group of Bhangra dancers to showcase the diversity of the Lower Mainland. The VIBC was born.
Founded in 2004, the VIBC Society is a not-for-profit organization run by a dedicated group of volunteers. The Society organizes the Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration, an annual arts festival celebrating the Indian dance form of Bhangra. The Society’s vision is to embrace the spirit of celebration, generosity and community that is Bhangra. The VIBC is dedicated to spreading the universal rhythm of Bhangra and welcoming people from all cultures to enjoy the beats of this beautiful art form.
VIBC want people to explore their creativity, celebrate culture and participate in the arts. The Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration is our contribution to Canada and the world.
