Strathcona Chinese Dance Company was founded in 1973 by Mimie Ho as a recreational dance program to promote Chinese dance art as Canada’s rich cultural diversity. Since then, the company has blossomed into a world renowned folkloric dance troupe under the direction of her daughter Anabel Ho. SCDC has shared its talents with worldwide audiences through its extensive tours to Canada, the U.S.A., China, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Portugal, Greece, Poland and the Netherlands, reaching over 130 cities. SCDC’s mandate has always been to foster artistic exchange and enhance cultural understanding while promoting goodwill and fellowship through the performing arts.
Strathcona Chinese Dance Company has been most privileged to present command performances for the Queen of England, the Emperor of Japan as well as Heads of State from many countries. SCDC is the home of Championship prize winners in Regional, National and International Dance Competitions. SCDC has been rewarded for its remarkable artistic accomplishments, community service, the promotion of Chinese Culture and its significant contributions to multicultural art.
