Rumba Calzada is a hot Afro-Cuban jazz band that was started in 1991 by the late Rene “Boying” Geronimo, a well-known Latin Jazz/Salsa percussionist. The band is now under the direction of son, Rafael Geronimo. Rafael grew up watching his father perform with musical greats Luis Conte (percussionist for Madonna), Poncho Sanchez (famous Latin Jazz band from L.A.) and Yomo Toro (Puerto Rican band from New York). He not only shares his father’s radiant smile but the same love of Latin rhythms which Rafael plays on the timbales with equal energy and vitality.
Since the tremendous success of their first CD released in 1995 which placed #8 on the Top Ten Charts in Miami, Rafael continues in his father’s footsteps, leading the award winning band and performing at dance halls, clubs, festivals and for many private functions at various banquet facilities around the city.
With their unique mixture of hot salsa and jazz rhythms, Rumba Calzada can’t help but create the perfect festive atmosphere for your next function.
