Through the strings of his guitar, John Gilliat brings to life a fresh direction and contemporary expression to new Flamenco, Rumba and Jazz in a style known as Nuevo Flamenco. The corporate world has embraced John’s music, through recent performances for prestigious clients. He’s also had the distinction of playing for former Prime Minister Jean Chretien and opening for Cirque Du Soleil.
He didn’t come by his gift overnight of course. By the time he had graduated from high school, he was ready to take the show on the road, touring across Canada and the United States with various pop groups, playing venues such as Harrah’s in Lake Tahoe and the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
At age 26 he immersed himself in Flamenco guitar tradition, inspired by the teaching methods of Juan Martin and listening to the incredible sounds of Paco de Lucia, Paco Pena, Sabicas and many others. This master guitarist has sold over 20,000 copies of his albums to date including “Christmas”, a wonderful collection of holiday classics.
John Gilliat performs as a solo artist, as a guitar duo or as a trio with a percussionist to create a warm atmosphere for any event.
