Colin Sankey is a Vancouver-based bassist, composer, and arranger known for blending advanced techniques such as tapping, harmonics, and slap into grooves that carry a full, orchestral quality. His artistry has been recognized internationally, including winning first place at the 2022 Phil Jones Solo Bass Competition in New York with his original “Musica de la Noche” and placing second in the 2021 BITE Bass Contest hosted by Charles Berthoud.
His debut album Reawakening drew attention from both listeners and critics, while his creative arrangements of songs like “Get Lucky” and the Super Mario Bros theme gained wide popularity on social media, earning millions of views across TikTok and Instagram. In 2023, he began developing a follow-up EP with support from Creative BC.
On stage, Colin has performed at festivals and venues such as the Fort Langley Jazz Festival, Frankie’s Jazz Club, Guilt and Co., the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and Surrey’s Canada Day celebrations. His music moves fluidly through jazz, funk, Latin, and rock.
